Sister Monica Mathusek, who serves not only as a YW Counselor but also as a Stake Self-Reliance Specialist in the Harrisonburg area, shares some information on a Church self-reliance program designed especially for our older youth. If you have youth who might benefit from joining the upcoming (virtual) group please invite them! If you are interested in starting your own group with youth from your ward or building, we can help put you in contact with your area Self-Reliance specialist.
Sister Mathusek:
"I am so grateful for the self reliance initiative. I know that good education mixed with spiritual application are so empowering for every individual! This helps to elevate not only those from poverty, but all who desire to grow, to a higher path. These classes help lift each individual that participates onto a new spiritual level that will help them have the spirit as a constant companion throughout their lives. "Geared toward older teens and young adults, Life Skills for Self-Reliance contains the most applicable content from three self-reliance manuals (Personal Finances, Find a Better Job, and Education for Better Work). This group helps participants research career and education opportunities, find and obtain employment, and learn how to manage their money. It will prepare them for missions, future education, military service, and work after high school. This manual also includes the booklet My Foundation for Self-Reliance. My foundation is a spiritual self reliance guide. "There is a virtual group of older youth starting this class on Sunday February 14th at 2pm. This will be in 4 week sections covering 3 topics for a total of 12 weeks. Each class is scheduled to last about two hours. All those that are interested in participating can contact me at monicamathusek@gmail.com or my husband Scott (the facilitator for the group) at scott.mathusek@gmail.com."
We know this program can be a blessing to our youth who are preparing to graduate, or just need to develop better studying and self-discipline skills now.
