Firewood is always needed by so many to stay warm during the winter months. Youth in a ward in our stake recently participated in service by chopping wood for people in their town.

Cold temperatures are around the corner. For some, Virginia never gets that cold. For some, the temperatures in Virginia is too cold. I am one that thinks that winter in Virginia is too cold.

My perspective on Virginia weather is based on being raised in Central Florida. I never really owned a jacket as a kid and the fireplace in my house was viewed as decoration. When I was 13, I experienced my first freeze warning. It was nighttime and my mom was worried about our orange tree. She had heard on the news that a freeze warning was coming that evening. I was all excited thinking a freeze warning meant it would snow overnight. I even turned the hose on before I went to bed, hoping to see snow in my front yard. It dropped as low as 30 degrees that night. It was cold. I woke up in the morning and ran into the front yard and to my disappointment, there was no snow in the front yard. However, my mom decided to let us stay home from school that day, because it was too cold (yes, I got to skip school for one day because it was 32 degrees).

There are some that really struggle through the Virginia winter. If your quorum or class is looking for a service project this fall, an idea could be to help someone split, stack or haul firewood. Your service will help keep someone warm this winter.
